San Diego is known for its attractions such as the Zoo and Wild Animal Park, as well as its military bases, and wartime artifacts. The biggest attraction, by far, to San Diego is the gorgeous weather and the ability to appreciate the beaches year-round. There are tons of different beaches throughout San Diego, and aside from the few that are run by the state, they are all free. Whether you like to sunbathe in serenity, dance and drink all day, or surf to your heart's desire, you will surely find the perfect spot in San Diego.
Sunbathing:
The best place to go for a relaxing day in the sun is Coronado Island's Municipal Beach. The long stretch of beach and beautiful white sand provide a perfect place for large groups to get together on a warm afternoon. It abuts the famed Hotel del Coronado, and is a mere two blocks away from the quaint Coronado Village. Many locals enjoy the serenity of this beach, while tourists come for the Hotel Del, beautiful sand, and good chance of seeing dolphins. There are quite a few other luxurious hotels on Coronado Island, as well.
Partying:
If you are interested in drinking and dining during your day at the beach, Mission Beach is the place for you. There is a cement boardwalk framing the sand, lined with restaurants, bars and souvenir shops. While alcohol is prohibited on beaches in San Diego, there are quite a few restaurants on the boardwalk with outdoor seating, so it is the next best thing. When you head down to the beach, you can even hear the music from the nearby bars and restaurants while on the sand. If you like to spend your evenings at the beach as well, there is a lively nightlife throughout the Mission Beach as well as neighboring Pacific Beach. If you are hoping to find a place to stay for a San Diego vacation, this is the best area for California beach rentals.
Surfing:
Black's Beach in La Jolla is often considered the best surf break on the West coast. La Jolla is one of the most beautiful areas in all of Southern California, and Black's is no exception. It is a bit of a hike to get down the cliffs to the sand, but it is worth it for the surf. Watch out for falling rocks!
